Should I choose to advertise my idea product or invention?
If your goal is to document and attract a potential buyer or investor, then yes, you should choose to be contacted. If your goal is only to have a verifiable dated registration and you are not interested in sharing your idea, product, or invention, or attracting a buyer or investor, then choose the "do not contact" option on the registration form. Your information will not be advertised. If you choose this option, you will still be added to the database and have registered proof of your idea, product, or invention.
If I describe my idea, product, or invention on the registration form, won't I be giving my idea away?
You are only required to give a brief description using only the details you choose to reveal. The details or secrets are contained in your notes or drawings that are in your possession. Only reveal that which you are comfortable with. If you are trying to attract interest from an investor, then you may choose to add more detail.
Should I get a patent?
If you have the time, energy and money to spend on a patent, then maybe you should. However, more often than not, people run out of time, energy, and of course, money before they get very far into the patent process, sometimes never getting past the patent search.

Should I get a provisional patent?
A provisional patent is somewhat similar to registering with ideainc, as it will give you some protection while you are developing your idea, or going through the patent process. However, at the time of this writing, the cost was 10-15 times greater than registering with ideainc. And you may need to hire someone to help you with the paperwork. Additionally, they will only hold your information for one year and will not offer you the option of advertisement.
